How Do You Like To Be Rewarded?

I am in charge of building a referral program for our company. I have been looking at referral programs deeply ever since I was CEO of Roster for 5 years. It is always been a curiosity of mine to discover the optimum way a customer can be rewarded for sharing a product with a friend or family member.

On one end of the spectrum you have the notorious MLMs, of which many come from Utah. These companies only use referrals, which are basically commissions and downlines you create for selling to your friends and family. On the other end you have simple codes you can share that may get a family member $20 off the product or maybe make yourself a little cash or get a gift from the company for each referral.

The best referral program from my personal experience was the Tesla program they had back in 2017 when I first bought a Model X. I used my friends referral and got free supercharging for life. Then, for every referral I made I got a crazy good gift. The first two referrals I got mini electric Teslas for my kids (they got destroyed after 5 years from heavy use).

Then I got nice tires. Then Powerwall. If I got 50 referrals I would have received a free car. I maxed out at 8 referrals before they killed the program. They didn’t need anymore, it was there to help get them off the ground, and it did the job. They still, to my knowledge, avoid mainstream advertising of any sorts.

The Tesla referral program was so good I bought a website TeslaDad.com and got my vanity plates too, which I still have today (including the EVAuto wrap).

So talk to me if you have something you feel strongly about with regards to referrals. Do you want cold hard cash? exclusive rewards from the brand? Do you want recognition on a leaderboard? Do you want credit to a brand store and you can choose what you want?

What brand have you worked with that has your favorite referral program?

Here is what we are asking people to share. A daily vitamin that lasts a month. What would you want for referring a friend?

Thanks for playing and Happy 420.
