Play it again, mom. On repeat.”

Another lesson my daughter teaches me.

We were driving from Provo to SLC yesterday to get my daughter’s earrings looked at. The bars needed to be shortened.

And yes, I’ve taken all my girls to a tattoo and piercing studio because even tattooed head to toe I trust someone trained for hours vs a teenager using a nail gun for the first time.

37mins. And my daughter requested her favorite song. On repeat. The song is 2:10.

I was having a tough day. Stress and frustration was at the front of my mind.

And I was planning for this drive to help.

But there she was in the back still in her booster seat singing her favorite song with as big a smile as you can get.

I grit my teeth, gripped the steering wheel and drove as fast as I legally could.

After we finished her appointment, we got back into the car and I asked what music she’d like to listen to this time, silently begging for ANYTHING else.

“It won’t matter mom. You’re unhappy and so the song played won’t matter.”

I turned around to look at her sad face. This child, at 8yrs old is known for her bright eyes, big smile and millions of expressions.

Her sad face, her disappointed face, brings anyone to their knees.

She explained to me that her favorite song is for when she’s sad, she misses me, or things aren’t going right in her world.

But she pointed out that it didn’t work for me. She saw I was having a bad day and tried to cheer me up but her attempt failed.

She also pointed out that it failed though because I was stuck in my head and missed a happy moment like singing with her.

(She’s 8 and I have no clue where she gets her brilliance.)

So, on the way back from SLC to Provo, I decided to join in. And at the top of our lungs we are singing her favorite song.

Cheer Up by A Great Big World. A VERY UNDERRATED song.

You can listen to it here on YouTube

Or here on Spotify:

My daughter Scout wants the whole world to listen and remember, 13 billion years and there’s still time.

I gave DallE a picture of my daughter scout and asked for an alien version and it nailed it.
