Teaching Adult Children

When you are 4 years old you are dependent on your parents in almost every way. When they are at the final years of life, the roles reverse. Somewhere in between there may be a time your parents come to you for advice. They may see your experience in the modern world as more current than their own.

My question to you all is did this transition happen in your relationship with your parents and at what age or life event did it become obvious?

I have friends in the 30s who have achieved much material success and have functional families and their parents lean on them for many of their decisions and questions.

I have friends who parent their adult children the same as they did when they were in Highschool and don’t appear that there is anything their children could teach them.

If this scenario, or the opposite of it feels familiar to you, tell me about it.

II have already asked my teens about topics that I needed to challenge my default boomer intuition. Music, politics, religion, technology, art…I’m more interested in what those younger than me have to say than those older than me, a bias admit.

Happy Sat and 420
