Sitting Around a Fire

In October, 2020 I went to the wilderness to try being alone for one week.  I had, up until that adventure, never been alone without interacting with other humans for more than 12 hours.

So I took water and food and a sleeping bag and mat. My family dropped me off at some acreage we purchased that is far from any other inhabitants. A week later I was picked up by a friend.

I had gone with no cellphone, no watch, just books and paper and pen.  I did take a camera to film the adventure and make record.  I gave all the footage to a documentarian who has been working on a film about Utah and tech and maybe he will edit some of this wilderness retreat into the final cut.

The only two take aways I had from this trip that still reverberate in my soul are these: there is a divine feminine that is our earth and connected to the sun.  I saw her via meditation and fasting.  The second is that I must go each year to the wilderness alone to get new wisdom.

It’s the end of 2024 and I haven’t gone back to the woods since that last time. Natalie begged me to go and even packed for me, so I am writing this in a parked car before I go off into the no connection zone.  I will do a short 48 hours this time around.

I will create tomorrow’s post right now so I don’t have a phone in my hand all day for the first time in years.  Here is the photo of me 4 years ago on the last day of my quest.
