Imagine the Audience Naked

Oct 25, 2024 · Scott Paul · 243 words

This was common advice I remember hearing when it came to public speaking. The idea is that if you picture the numerous people in the crowd as naked, or in their underwear, it should calm your nerves. Quora discusses it here.

Now that I think on this more, it causes me to wonder why imagining people naked would do the trick and lower anxiety. I was unsuccessful at undressing even a single person while giving my first talk as a teenager to a group of 130 people at church. Don’t get me wrong, I imagine almost everyone I met in the nude. It is a program I run automatically in my mind upon meeting humans. But for some reason I cannot successfully batch process the undressing of a crowd, like I was advised to do when public speaking.

I want to start Toastmasters, where you learn public speaking. I will make it spicy by making the dress code underwear only. This is not a clothing optional event, it’s a no attire allowed. Not sure when this should happen, but if anyone here wants to improve public speaking, hit me up.

Anyway, this is a random thought I wanted to share as I am in Brooklyn watching a presentation on type faces and fonts. Yesterday

I messed up huge on time and scheduled the post to go 2 hours early. I’m getting today right, Friday 4:20 is not to be missed.
