Barely Famous Revisited
Yesterday I wrote about fame. I didn’t feel it was a topic that should ruffle any feathers, but it created a some sort of feeling in one of my friends from high school. It was enough to have him reply with “Unsubscribe”. This person clearly wanted to make a point or he would have just unsubscribed without letting me know I was too hot for him to handle.
I reread my post, reflected on it, and don’t exactly know what would have made him read 150 days of my daily diary and have this one trigger him. I do remember he was someone who was barely famous himself 25 years ago in high school, having been on the Jay Leno show and had lots of business success even while a senior. Maybe talking about fame is a subject that is off limits in our community? I hope he is ok. I just wonder how my emails do anything but entertain. These scottsposts are made for entertainment primary, mostly my own amusement, and then for you.
I also make these posts so that you, the reader, can feel a little more comfort knowing there’s someone alive that is weirder than you, but also thinks like you at times. The subject of fame was very deliberate. I wanted to explore the idea of fame and I asked GPT4 what makes someone famous and made my own little scale to rate your own fame. I felt it was innovation and I was proud of my post. So when I get negative feedback, it’s just what I need to remind me that my subject matter is meaningful to more than just me. If a subject causes a stir, it must be useful to discuss.
This same friend has poked around and responded to no less than 6 of my emails this year and never once had anything positive to say or congrats on any accomplishment. Yet, he reads many of them, according to my data dashboard. I hope he can find a way to have compersion for me and not the energy he currently responds with. I have many things to say about the topic of being happy for others. It’s not going to be this post, but it is coming up.
I want to clarify why fame is very important to me. Fame is something that allows the beholder to make significant impact in our short lifetimes. Fame is not negative or positive, it’s just what one does with fame. I plan to be very wealthy, very famous, very healthy, very giving, very smart, very loving. I want to be very famous so that I can share the best things of life whenever I get a chance and it so that it reaches many people. I am also working on a company right now that creates more value when more people are using it. We are going to need all the health data from all the humans and then ask AI what we can do to find new medicine. The more people that I can reach, the more people benefit and the more data can be fed to this new intelligence for new answers.
I am not going to be famous because I want to be famous. I am going to be famous because I am creating value that will be used by almost everyone earth. My cofounder accomplished a similar feat when he was at Snapchat, but that app may not create much value. It might even create harm for many. We think our app will create the opposite of harm for everyone who uses it. We have asked only one question since the beginning, and it is “how can we heal ourselves and others with this new technology. When we succeed in creating the largest consumer health company in the world, I will have fame, and with that fame I will continue to find new causes that are important to me and direct any attention I get to these causes.
To my old friend, DP, I hope you read this and can support me and hope for my success. I have never had anything but admiration for you and all you have done in your life and career.
Much Love,
SP
Thank Jeff B. for letting Kirk and I enjoy courtside tickets last night and believing and investing in Phi. I felt barely famous for a hour there in my wizard robe.
