The Year I Tried Youtube

Life with Scott was my favorite venture because it was all about living each day to the fullest.  I want to do it again someday, but it really needs to be at a time when I can dedicate more of my schedule.  The point of most Youtube channels are to demonstrate something, guide you through something or review something.  My YouTube channel was kind of like the Truman Show, but I was playing both Cristof, the director, and Truman at same time.  I had no goal for the show other than to explore themes of artificial intelligence, crypto and tech in a friendly Mr. Rogers way. I mark it as my most successful failure. It brought me several best friends, including my cofounder, Derek. Derek now has a crypto tax firm and product all from what he learned getting paid in crypto that year.

After 30 episodes and only 1400 subscribers, I did the math and realized I was spending about $1000 per subscriber out of my own pocket.  It was never going to be something I tried to make money doing, but I also know how to determine if something is catching on or not.  Few people want to watch a retired white dad bod try to pontificate as to why the world is so silly… while dressing up in wigs and traveling the world.
