Fill Up & Empty

Sep 7, 2024 · Scott Paul · 173 words

Yesterday I was road tripping with Trent to an event and he shared a theory.  He believes filling things up and emptying things brings the most pleasure in life.  We went through a bunch of scenarios and the theory checked out.

Think of eating food, sex and orgasms, taking a wonderful morning shit.  Filling up gas and using it to drive to empty. Charging a phone and having it full. Filling up and emptying gives dopamine.

But then today, I found myself doing a mountain bike ride and I crashed pretty hard “living on the edge”.  I fell of the edge of the trail and re-injured my thumb and must have also popped a tire.

I didn’t get any satisfaction from the slow deflation of this tire being emptied.  I ended up walking the last 20 minutes at the end of my ride.  I enjoyed more Aerosmith during the ride and realized how much those songs are anthem to my middle school experience in Walnut Creek, California.

Happy 4:20
